About Me

Hi everyone and welcome, Stephen

My name is Stephen and I have been playing the guitar for quite some time. One thing I have learnt throughout this time is that you can always get better.

That is what I love about it most. I am learning new stuff all the time. That is the joy of making music. It is a never ending process. There is always so much more to learn and so much more to play. It is a journey.

I have tried playing different styles and tried different methods of learning the guitar. Sometimes I think that I experimented so that I would not lose interest. I have purchased videos and dvds of guys like Happy Traum and Doc Watson.  I have learnt songs by learning tablature from song books and guitar sites. Nowadays, we have YouTube and what a resource we have at our fingertips.

The reason I have created this site is not only to help folks like yourself but to motivate myself to continue playing and in the process improve my skills. I have an 11 year old son and I also would like to share this gift with him. I would like to be the one to teach him how to learn to play. It is a gift that he will enjoy for the rest of his life. Believe it or not, there are things in this world that money cannot buy and folks, this is one of them.

I ask that if you find a song or technique that interests you or you need help learning a song, you get involved within my site. I am keen to see people improve and the only way to do that is to practice. The journey involves acquiring skills and then maintaining them and the only way to do that is to practice them and enjoy doing so.

There have been times when

I have lost interest in playing the guitar and this has coincided with the moving away from friends with whom I shared many a ‘guitar night’ or two. Preparing songs for the next ‘guitar night ‘ was always something I looked forward to.

The idea here is not to learn to play the guitar but to learn how to play songs on the guitar. There is so much to learn when it comes to learning the guitar. If you are learning by yourself, it may be a good idea to record the songs you play and keep a record of your progress. it is important that we keep in mind how we felt in the moments of achievement. It feels good!  I know that I am still very self conscious when it comes to playing in front of people but with internet access and the the resources available today, who cares how you sound. It is the improvement that you want to hear.

Believe me when I say that when you begin to see an improvement, you will feel as if there is another dimension to your life. When you reach the stage when you can play without thinking about what you are doing, then you will be close to understanding why I called this site ‘Mind Guitar’.
